Even a couple of weeks after having finished this book, I’m still at a loss for words to describe it… And not in a positive sense…
I wish I could have given it a higher rating, but it’s absolutely impossible, after having struggled through this “thing” for almost two months, dragging its weight along everywhere that I went…

The concept and the idea of the book were simply brilliant! Disguised as a borrowed library book, it housed two stories: the one of the actual book itself, “The Ship of Theseus” and a dialogue taking place in the margins of the book between two people, trying to uncover its riddles, as well as background stories. Unfortunately, even the best idea can’t save a shitty story (sorry, I simply don’t have any other words for it…). There was nothing compelling, thrilling, interesting or intriguing to it, with a final disappointment in the end, the story ending in the most predictable and cheesy way.

While fighting my way from one chapter to the next, I simply couldn’t believe how you could ruin something that seemed so promising in the beginning. The visuals were doubtlessly impressive, the weathered look of the pages of the book, the many inlays of photos, postcards, handwritten notes or even maps drawn out on napkins… All that wasted for a story which you would rather put down after just the first couple of dozens of pages.

I’d advise you to stay away from it. One thing that J. J. Abrams must have forgotten during the conception of this book, was to actually hire a good writer…
