To Kill a Mockingbird – Harper Lee

As much as I’ve always heard about “To Kill a Mockingbird” as an absolute must-read, I haven’t been convinced into loving it. Writing the review 2 months after having finished the book, I can’t go into as many details anymore, but I do know that I’ve waited a while, hoping that I might find some better words to express my opinion after processing the story (somehow that didn’t happen and I’ve decided to go ahead nevertheless).

While it hasn’t been something I regretted reading, I also wouldn’t necessarily recommend it to fellow readers. To me, the entire reading time of a book usually says a lot about my liking of it and my judgement of its quality. In this case, I struggled through it for almost an entire month. As mentioned in some other reviews, it takes almost half the book to get into the story and the characters, which was disappointing.

Even though I haven’t watched the movie to the book yet, it somehow seems to me, that this will be one of the few exceptions, where a movie on the topic would be much more enjoyable than the book. Somehow the characters didn’t feel relatable, I didn’t feel drawn into the story completely, so all in all, I’d say that it’s one of the “classics” you can pass on.
